It's a definitive Death Metal album for one, without more than a touch of the punk/hardcore junk Entombed have been selling for years.

opening with a couple fast, thrashy death ‘n’ roll numbers, even if there’s battle-torn ‘n’ worn sophistication to some of the breaks and melodies. The album starts with the title song “Serpent Saints.” A quite ominous sounding intro gives way to a blasting Motorhead type riff and the song pummels you. Things are off to a good start. Entombed somehow managed to retain their death metal sound and at the same time incorporate a raw Venom/ Motorhead feel to their albums. The low bass kicked in, bouncing off my head like a concrete police baton and then the guitars – those damn guitars – started to shred my eardrums like a hungry carnivore tearing into a hot meal.

Unfortunately, the creeping malaise that sometimes plagues ENTOMBED seeps back in after these two songs. Things get less fun, more stodgy, and more boring pretty quick with the unimpressive "Amok"

If ever there exists a band in the Metal kingdom that hasn’t received the rewards due, it’s Entombed. A vital part of the Swedish Death Metal heritage with 1990 debut Left Hand Path and follow-up Clandestine, the band has stuck at it through thick and thin, creating the much-maligned genre of Death N’Roll with 1993’s Wolverine RATING: 7/10. After the soggy and forgettable "Inferno" four long years ago, just the fact that ENTOMBED sounds like they wanted to be in the studio for this one is a cause for celebration. 2007-09-24 CoC : Entombed - Serpent Saints : Review : It's hard to talk about Entombed's decline without perhaps exaggerating a bit, as the band have rarely out and out embarrassed themselves, and in fact seem capable of consistently putting out albums worth anything from a 7 to an 8 out of 10 rating; but I think fans rightly expect a band of this pedigree to occasionally knock one out of the park. 2014-07-28 2018-06-04 Serpent Saints isn't a return to form as such, but it's a good try.
